90-year-Old woman declined chemo, started to travel with her dog instead!

As doctors,” he said, “we see what treatment looks like everyday. ICU, nursing homes, awful side effects and honestly, there is no guarantee she will survive the initial surgery to remove the mass. You are doing exactly what I would want to do in this situation. Have a fantastic trip!”

  1. Mom took the chemo- stroked out after the first does; lost her mind, went blind, got super paranoid (thought people were feeding her dog food). Died a year later…unrecovered. Oddly she acquired a very very thick southern accent that last year. She ranted with a drawl. She was born in Michigan.

Some recover…many many don’t. Seen both. “self determined life closure” is the hospice philosophy. It’s the best practice.

  2. Self determined life closure…a choice…to flip a coin. I’ve seen some who have chosen not to take the chemo…and five years later they get sick; but had 5 years of good quality life.

Seen some who refused the chemo…died. Week later…or rent home, loved their family…said good by…and they were gone the next day.

Nothing anyone chooses can ever be outside of human scope.

Self determine life closure begins at birth; by proxy of parent until maturity…then personal.

I thought the story you presented was inspiring…and so was the hope.

      1. Indeed; like conversations over a tall fence; between the slats…only movement of shadow…voices through slats and from over head.

        Human blogging.
